The tuyere nose is the innermost and most critical component of the blast furnace tuyere assembly. It is a highly engineered copper casting that protrudes directly into the furnace hearth. Its primary functions are: 1.To inject the hot blast (pre-heated air, often enriched with oxygen and fuels) deep into the coke bed at the furnace's raceway. 2.To withstand the most extreme thermal and chemical environment in the blast furnace, withstanding temperatures exceeding 2000°C just millimeters from its tip. 3.To be intensively cooled by a high-velocity water circuit to prevent melting.

Blast Furnace Cooling Staves are critical internal cooling components installed in the stack and belly sections of the blast furnace. They are typically long, vertical panels made of cast iron, steel, or (most commonly) high-conductivity copper. Their primary function is to extract heat from the furnace interior, thereby protecting the furnace shell and maintaining a stable protective layer of solidified slag (“skull”) on their hot face, which is essential for achieving a long campaign life.

The blast furnace shell is the massive, cylindrical steel pressure vessel that forms the outer structural envelope of the furnace.
