A Blast Furnace Nitrogen Plant (on-site or dedicated gas generation facility)

Main Function

Produces high-purity nitrogen gas for safety inerting and process purging in blast furnace operations

Nitrogen Purity

Typically ≥99.5%

Critical Role

Prevents explosions and maintains process control, ensuring a reliable and economical nitrogen supply

A Blast Furnace Nitrogen Plant is an on-site or dedicated gas generation facility that produces high-purity nitrogen gas (typically ≥99.5% purity) primarily for safety inerting and process purging in blast furnace operations. It ensures a reliable and economical supply of nitrogen, which is critical for preventing explosions and maintaining process control.

Component Name

Tuyere Nose

Position in Blast Furnace

Innermost and most critical component of the tuyere assembly, protruding directly into the furnace hearth

Primary Functions

1. Inject hot blast (pre-heated air, often enriched with oxygen and fuels) deep into the coke bed at the raceway 2. Withstand extreme thermal and chemical environment with temperatures exceeding 2000°C just millimeters from its tip 3. Intensively cooled by a high-velocity water circuit to prevent melting

Material & Design

Highly engineered copper casting

The tuyere nose is the innermost and most critical component of the blast furnace tuyere assembly. It is a highly engineered copper casting that protrudes directly into the furnace hearth. Its primary functions are: 1.To inject the hot blast (pre-heated air, often enriched with oxygen and fuels) deep into the coke bed at the furnace's raceway. 2.To withstand the most extreme thermal and chemical environment in the blast furnace, withstanding temperatures exceeding 2000°C just millimeters from its tip. 3.To be intensively cooled by a high-velocity water circuit to prevent melting.

Component Name

Blast Furnace Cooling Staves

Installation Location

Installed in the stack and belly sections of the blast furnace

Common Materials

Cast iron, steel, or (most commonly) high-conductivity copper

Primary Function

Extract heat from the furnace interior to protect the furnace shell and maintain a stable protective layer of solidified slag (“skull”) on their hot face, which is essential for achieving a long campaign life

Blast Furnace Cooling Staves are critical internal cooling components installed in the stack and belly sections of the blast furnace. They are typically long, vertical panels made of cast iron, steel, or (most commonly) high-conductivity copper. Their primary function is to extract heat from the furnace interior, thereby protecting the furnace shell and maintaining a stable protective layer of solidified slag (“skull”) on their hot face, which is essential for achieving a long campaign life.

Shape

Massive, cylindrical

Primary Material

Steel

Primary Function 1

Contain the internal refractory lining, cooling systems, and process burden (iron ore, coke, etc.)

Primary Function 2

Withstand immense internal pressure, thermal stresses, and the weight of the entire structure

The blast furnace shell is the massive, cylindrical steel pressure vessel that forms the outer structural envelope of the furnace. Its primary functions are to: 1.Contain the internal refractory lining, cooling systems, and the process burden (iron ore, coke, etc.). 2.Withstand immense internal pressure, thermal stresses, and the weight of the entire structure. 3.Provide a gas-tight seal for the furnace top and hearth bottom operations

Primary Function

Deform, flatten, or fragment metal pipes and tubes for volume reduction, material preparation for recycling, or safe disposal

Target Materials

Primarily steel, also non-ferrous metals

Mechanism of Operation

Applies immense mechanical force through hydraulically powered jaws or rollers

End Result / Output Shape

Compacted, non-cylindrical shape

A Pipe breaking machine is a heavy-duty industrial machine designed to deform, flatten, or fragment metal pipes and tubes (primarily steel, but also non-ferrous) for the purpose of volume reduction, material preparation for recycling, or safe disposal. It applies immense mechanical force through hydraulically powered jaws or rollers to crush the pipe into a compacted, non-cylindrical shape.

Mounting / Location

Rail-mounted, located on the cast house floor of a blast furnace

Primary Function

Bore a clean, cylindrical channel through the refractory plug (clay) at the taphole to initiate the hot metal tapping process

Drive Type / Technology

Fully hydraulic, often automated

Operating Environment

Extreme heat, dust, and shock conditions

A taphole drill is a heavy-duty, rail-mounted machine located on the cast house floor of a blast furnace. Its sole and critical function is to bore a clean, cylindrical channel through the refractory plug (clay) at the taphole, thereby initiating the hot metal tapping process. Modern drills are fully hydraulic, often automated, and designed to operate in extreme heat, dust, and shock conditions.

Material

Pre-cast refractory or abrasion-resistant steel plates

Location / Installation

Inside the slag runner system of a blast furnace cast house (as replaceable wear surface)

Primary Function

Protect the permanent concrete or steel structure of the runner from the extremely abrasive, high-temperature molten slag flow

Operating Temperature

Approximately 1500°C

Slag runner liners are pre-cast, refractory or abrasion-resistant steel plates that form the replaceable wear surface inside the slag runner system of a blast furnace cast house. Their primary function is to protect the permanent concrete or steel structure of the runner from the extremely abrasive, high-temperature (≈1500°C) molten slag flow, thereby ensuring smooth slag transport to the granulation or dumping area and minimizing maintenance downtime.

System Type

Advanced, energy-saving, environmentally friendly system

Cooling Medium

Inert gas (typically nitrogen) in a closed-loop cycle

Inlet Coke Temperature

Approximately 1000°C

Key Benefits

Recovers thermal energy for power generation or steam production; eliminates pollution (compared to wet quenching)

Vertical Coke Oven Dry Quenching (CDQ) is an advanced, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly system designed to cool hot coke (≈1000°C) discharged from vertical (or stamp-charged) coke ovens. Instead of using water (wet quenching), it utilizes inert gas (typically nitrogen) in a closed-loop cycle to extract heat from red-hot coke, recovering thermal energy for power generation or steam production while eliminating pollution.

Material Composition

Synthetic composite of corundum (α-Al₂O₃) and mullite (3Al₂O₃·2SiO₂)

Primary Function

Direct, disrupt, or regulate the flow of gases, liquids, or solid materials in high-temperature environments

Application / Service Conditions

High-temperature industrial furnaces, kilns, reactors, and ducting systems

Engineered Performance Characteristics

Engineered for extreme thermal, mechanical, and chemical demands

Baffle Blocks are preformed, high-performance refractory shapes designed to direct, disrupt, or regulate the flow of gases, liquids, or solid materials in high-temperature industrial furnaces, kilns, reactors, and ducting systems. Corundum Mullite refers to the advanced refractory material composition—a synthetic composite of corundum (α-Al₂O₃) and mullite (3Al₂O₃·2SiO₂)—engineered for extreme thermal, mechanical, and chemical demands.

Key Components

Cooling wall (copper/cast iron, water circulation with cooling water temperature difference ≤10℃), tuyere (copper water-cooled, diameter 100-150mm), slag tap (high-chromium cast iron, located at lower part of furnace belly, withstands 1450-1550℃ iron slag)

Furnace Volume Range

300-5800 m³ (adaptable to annual production of 300,000-6,000,000 tons of molten iron)

Operating Pressure

0.2-0.35 MPa (for high-pressure blast furnace)

Supported by / Auxiliary Systems

Hot blast stoves, coal injection devices, charging equipment, and tapping equipment to enable continuous production

The blast furnace system is the core equipment for steel smelting. It uses the blast furnace itself to smelt iron ore into molten iron. It is supported by hot blast stoves, coal injection devices, and other energy sources, and supplemented by equipment for charging and tapping to achieve continuous production.
